EASTBOURNE TRAILER

JOURNEY HOME

After two weeks in Eastbourne it was time to go home.
Our bus drove us to Gatwick airport in London. During the journey everybody slept. We passed the waiting time at the airport in a Mc Donalds and ate something. After that we went to the gate and enjoyed our flight to home.
In Zurich, we got our suitcases and then went home by train or by car.
It was a great time in Eastbourne!

FRIDAY 28th SEPTEMBER

Our final day, unfortunately!

The day started as always at 9am in the Eastbourne language school. In the first lesson we discussed the exam results we had written the previous day.
Then breaktime! Smoke-addicts in the backgarden, game-heads at the nitendo wii, musik-junks on the piano or guitars, and  the lazy ones watching all of them doin' their things. The next lesson was about the videos of London's most famous places which we had made the week before.
Last thing before our final release into freedom was to get our certificates from our class teacher. Then we had a lunch break for about 2.5 h. and at 2 o'clock pm we caught our bus and said goodbye to lovely Eastbourne.

THE SCHOOL

We have a fantastic school; - a very comfortable common room where you can play table tennis, look at very useful information material, borrow DVDs, sit and chat in comfy chairs, have lunch, play the piano, meet people from all over the world.... It's brilliant!! There is also a refreshing green garden with trees and flowers. Lovely for recreation!  The classrooms are all excellently equipped and the study centre with computers and WiFi is loved and cherished by teachers and students alike :-))

THURSDAY 27th SEPTEMBER

As usual we went to school at 9 a.m. Today we had the BEC Preliminary mock exam. First of all we did the reading and then the writing part. After that we had a long break. In the break we could relax, play table tennis or NINTENDO Wii. At 11.15 a.m. we had to do the listening part. In the afternoon we played a game which is called "Psychatrist". Some of the students still had to do the speaking part of the exam. Later in the afternoon there was a little "Goodbye Apero" for us from the teacher of the ESOE.

WEDNESDAY 26th SEPTEMBER

Today we had a Wednesday with very British weather - windy, rainy and a little bit of sun.
In the morning we had school like every day. We prepared  for our BEC exam.
In the afternoon we visited Brighton and did our last shopping-tour. Some of us used the time to see Brighton, but most of us were found in the
shopping-centre. After five hours of shopping, we had to take the train back to Eastbourne - and most of us didn’t have a lot of money after this short, but busy afternoon.

At 7 o’clock am the train arrived at Eastbourne station, and we could go and eat dinner at home.
It was a funny and very interesting day.

MUSICAL IN LONDON

Some of us took full advantage of the fact that Eastbourne is situated so close to London and went up there to see a musical on Tuesday night. We saw THRILLER, a tribute to King of Pop, Michael Jackson. A fantastic experience with wonderful performers and magic moments of song and dance.

TUESDAY 25th SEPTEMBER

As on Monday, it rained and rained and rained today – and I forgot my new wellingtons from Primark at home. What a pity. Every time when something would be really useful you don`t have it with you....
So after school there was nothing to do but to go to Starbucks to drink a coffee. Back at home I had to write postcards and it`s always the same problem – how to write it in a foreign language without making a mistake so that everybody thinks that your English is very good :-))

BOWLING

A very nice evening indeed with lots of fun playing bowling and lazer quest!

MONDAY 24th SEPTEMBER

The first day of the second week didn't start very well, because it rained cats and dogs. Although it is typical for England, we hoped that the weather would change. Some of us had to buy a new jacket to be protected against the rain and the wind.
As usual the school started at nine o'clock and we had some BEC preparation. After school the weather brightened up a little bit so everybody could enjoy themselves in the pedestrian zone of the city. After a short stop by our hostfamilies we met at At 7.30 pm the station to go bowling and laserquesting.
In the center we were given the special shoes and started to bowl. After bowling some were very excited about starting to play laserquest.
Everybody was exhausted after this fantastic game and delighted to go home. On the way home it was pouring down, and that was another challenge.

CINJA AND CAROLINE

On Sunday I spent the whole day in London with Alessia, Vanessa and Lorenz. We went by train at 8.47 in the morning. We  were all very tired, but we were also a bit  nervous about what to expect.
We first went to Madame Tussauds. It was very funny. We took a lot of pictures with the wax people.
After that, we went shopping and bought some things, -  most of all clothes and souvenirs from London.

At 8.30 we were back at home in Eastbourne. After a hard walking day we fell asleep when we got home to our host families.
To sum up, it was a great day with my lovely friends.. :)

FIRST IMPRESSIONS FROM LONDON

FRIDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER

In the morning we went to school at 9 o'clock like every morning.
First we had a speaking test at school to prepare for the BEC speaking exam and we also did a lot of grammar excercises.
Then in the afternoon we went to a pub to drink a coffee  together with the whole class. That was our day at school. In the evening we went to a pub with some people from our class. It was funny.

BEACHY HEAD Part 2

BEACHY HEAD Part 1

THURSDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER

It was a normal Thursday morning. We sat at school, learnt English for our BEC exam until the fire alarm begin to ring. All students ran out in the garden where the school's administration manager spoke to us and said it was only a test. So we went back to school for the whole day.

Today there were different kinds of sports on the timetable but most of us went shopping or did something else.

INTERVIEW WITH ALESSIA

THURSDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER

On Thursday morning school started at 9 o'clock, but there were some students missing! What happened? I think there were some very bad alarm clocks...

So in the morning we first had to learn some new vocabulary and something about the past tenses. It was a bit difficult to learn so many things in a short time but our teacher tried to make it a bit easier with some games between the exercises.

In the afternoon we spent some time with our funny teacher "Goldie" at the beach. We went to a café where we drank a cup of English tea. Very delicious, and she's so cool! After that, we went back to school and then we did some "hardcore-shopping" ;) ...

CRAZY LUNCHTIME

We wanted to go shopping in Topshop at lunchtime. In the shop we tried on some trousers, both of us the same ones. We also bought something for 30 pounds (but not the trousers) and then we went to Starbucks. Then suddenly the securitas from Topshop came and said to us that we had stolen some earrings. "What???", we thought. The shop manager then took us to a room at the back of the shop. (We must admit we said a few bad things in Swiss-German to the shop-assistant, who accused us of stealing!) She said we had stolen some earrings for two pounds!! She claimed that she had found some empty earring-packets in our changing room and that they had not been there before we got in there. The security officers then looked at the CCTV videos from the shop, but they didn't find anything. Then we had to wait for the police for a long time.
The security officer had called Ms Marolf so that she could translate. The police came and searched for the earrings in our bags and under our clothes, in our hair and in our shoes.
They didn't find anything, but that was clear, because we knew that we hadn't stolen anything!!!!! After maybe an hour we could go out of the shop and back to school. We found it quite a lot of fuss about two pairs of earrings. Anyway, we will NEVER, EVER go back to TOPSHOP!!

So be careful - shopping is totally dangerous!!!

PROJECT WORK - preparing for London

On Wednesday afternoon all the students had to work in a different school building and in one big classroom. They were doing project work to prepare for our big London excursion on Saturday. Taking into account that the students were all 34 of them in one single classroom, they were doing a very good job indeed! They were concentrated and focused! Now we are all  looking forward to the project products which will be presented in class next Friday.

Well done, all of you. And thank you, Mike :-)

WEDNESDAY 19th SEPTEMBER

On Wednesday morning every class learnt something about the BEC exam.
After lunch we met in the school garden and walked to another school building because we had a special project for the afternoon. First, we watched a short movie about London. Then we got information about what we had to do during the next few days. We had to make a movie about a theme we could choose. Every theme is about something from London. We have time to plan it until Saturday. On Saturday we can make a movie in London. And on Friday next week we must present our movies to the other students.
After this information afternoon we took a sight-seeing bus to go to the Beachy Head, which is the highest chalk cliff in Britain. The view was amazing but it was very windy. After a short break to photograph the amazing view we took the bus again and drove to another station where we got out for another break. There we could go to the seafront and we saw the cliffs from below.
This little excursion was very interesting and I think the wind made our heads so clear that we can now concentrate better again at school ;)

GERALDINE

Wednesday was our third day in Eastbourne. The day started like the others have done the last few days. We had class until lunch time. In the afternoon we went to the Learning Center, which is another building of the school of Eastbourne. There Mike, our cute social manager, talked a little bit about London and what we are going to do. Also he gave us some tasks for us to do on this day in the capital city of England. For a competition we have to do a presentation about a monument in London. We have two options of how to do it. Option one is: We have to stand in front of the monument and talk about the history or other stuff about this building or this monument. Mister Bischofberger, our personal papparazzi :-) will record the whole presentation with his video camera. Option two is: We have to take pictures and record films during the day in London, then we have to cut it together and overvoice the video. Most of us chose option one.
After school we had the possibility to go with Mike and some other students to Beachy Head. Beachy Head is quite famous in England. For the ones who don't know what it is, Beachy Head are huge cliffs.
We went to the pier and hopped on a sightseeing bus. We drove until Beachy Head and it was really windy on the top of this bus. So we hopped off on the station Beachy Head and almost everyone was enthusiastic about the absolutely beautiful view.
After Beachy Head there was another stop, the Birling Gap. Also this was something really beautiful to see. After that our day at school was over.

VALENTINA

TUESDAY 18th SEPTEMBER

Our second day at school started at 9.00 a.m., like every other day will during these two weeks. But what here seems obvious is for us a wonderful feeling and a perfect help for our relationship to our sleep :-) I mean 7.30 a.m. and 9.00 a.m. is a huge difference. Don’t you think? But let’s skip this part with the sleeping and the times, otherwise you’re going to get jealous and depressed.
Well then, what can I tell about school? We all know that for us students it’s always the same, even if it’s not. The positive thing is that we’ve got one-hour lessons here and between them we always have a break of 10 to 20 minutes. In the morning lesson we’ve got grammar and vocabulary. In the afternoon, speaking and listening. But today, while the others were working, our classes (Group 1 & Group 3) went to  the seaside. But if I explain this feeling in words, I’m sure the others would hate me!!
When school was over a few of us went „windsurfing & kayaking“. It was funny! Better than a comedy. I couldn’t help myself, I couldn’t stop laughing!! It was so funny to watch them all falling down every single minute, while Mr Bischofberger was chilling somewhere in the deep blue sea. After that I’m pretty sure that everyone went home for dinner, which in some houses tastes better than in others. After that, we’ve got the time of our life :-) We can do whatever we like and this until 11.00 p.m.!
Well, but I felt that today it was not my turn to change the world, so I stayed at home and wrote this text, with a nice cup of tea and some good music. That’s what I call sweet life!

WINDSURFING

Some of our students - including Mr Bischofberger! - went windsurfing and sailing on Tuesday afternoon. After a long walk we arrived at the Windsurfing and Sailing Center on the beach. Beautiful weather, cool teachers and very keen students, -  a thoroughly successful afternoon!! Just have a look for yourselves:

HOSTFAMILY

My first impression of my Hostmum was, that English people are very welcoming and kind. Since the first moments she speaks with me and asks me a lot of questions. And its very good that she explains me words I dont understand and helps me to say my sentences in correct English. There is also an other student who is living there. He is really funny and kind. Not only thr people are nice also the little house. I have got a lovely room.

I hope the following days are such as good as my first impression was.

SEVERINE

When we arrived on Sunday evening with the bus, I could make my first impressions. The houses looked different to our houses in Switzerland. The sea is very nice but it is difficult to get used to the cars driving on the left.

My host family was waiting for me at the school when we arrived and they drove me to their home.
I live in a small an pretty house near Dilara and my hostfamily is so cute. I really I feel well here and my first impressions are very good. I know I'll enjoy my time here in Switzerland.

FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL

On Monday 17.09.2012 we had our first day at school in Eastbourne. We all met at 08.45 am by the school, and then our teacher first gave us some important information about our course here in Eastbourne.
In the first lesson we had to present our neighbour. We spoke a lot in our first lessons and we were all very interested in learning English in another way than in Switzerland. The teachers are also all very nice here in Eastbourne.
At lunchtime we got two sandwiches, fruits, drinks, crisps and a muffin to eat. After we had ate it all, we had time to go to Primark and we bought a lot of things.
At 03.45 pm the lessons ended and we had a tour around Eastbourne. After that our first day at school was over.

THIS IS EASTBOURNE

FIRST DAY IN EASTBOURNE

On the first day it is a little bit strange when you wake up in another country, in another house and specially in another family.

So I first went into the kitchen to say hello to my host mother who was making breakfast for me. Then I had a shower and prepared for school. So I was ready for school, but breakfast still wasn't prepared and I thought that now I will be too late on my first school day. Some minutes later I remembered that my watch still showed the Swiss time, so I was one hour too early!

When I arrived at school we met our teacher. Her name is Sage, a very friendly and likeable lady. In the afternoon, the teachers changed. The new teacher's name is Marc, he is very funny.

After school, we walked around Eastbourne with the whole group. After this walk we went shopping. When I arrived  home, my host mother made delicious spaghetti. In the evening, we had a welcome party in a pub. So it was a long day and I fell asleep fast.

WE'RE LEAVING ON A ... PLANE

PUB NIGHT IN CROWN AND ANCHOR

While in England, do as the English :-) And that was exactly what we were trying to do yesterday evening on our first 'night out' - on our pub evening. The Crown and Anchor turned out to be a perfect location for fun and dance! The students were really enjoying themselves, - and for the teachers it was nice to be reminded of what it's like to be sweet 17, 18, 19..

The Eastbourne school of English have posted many more pictures on their facebook page, so go and have a look there if you are interested. The link is:

FIRST IMPRESSION - HOMESTAY

I live in a small house with Ms Lombardi, her husband and two sons. There are six other students from other countries there, too. Two are from the Czech Republic, three are from Austria (- but they are leaving tomorrow) and one student is ill.

I sleep in a room which is the son's bedroom. I think the whole family sleep in one room because they have got so many students.

I think the dinner is typically English. My host mum is very friendly and funny. I can't understand my host dad, though, because he's got a strong accent. - He's half Italian.

OUR JOURNEY TO EASTBOURNE

The meeting time at Zurich airport was between 1:45 p.m. and 2:10 p.m. Ms. Marolf and Mr. Bischofberger were expecting us at the check-in. We had to do a self-check-in and then we waited for boarding. After that we went through passport control and security. Our plane was late and we had to wait. We flew with easyjet at 3:45 p.m and we landed at Gatwick airport in London at 5 p.m. The busdriver was already waiting for us at the airport. At 6:30 p.m. we arrived in Eastbourne. The host families picked us up at the school. We were all very excited to see our home for the next two weeks.
